Elon Poll Reports North Carolina Views on Cannabis and Hemp
The final analysis uses 800 matched respondents.
The results describe adult opinion, not a change in state law.
Elon University's September 17, 2026 release reports support among North Carolina adults of 75% for medical cannabis legalization and 55% for recreational legalization. Separately, 53% supported allowing intoxicating hemp products, while 82% favored prohibiting sales to under-21s.
YouGov conducted the online survey August 21–31. It interviewed 1,121 adults, then matched respondents down to a final sample of 800 and applied weights. The university reports a margin of error of ±5.09 percentage points for all adults; voter subgroups have different margins.
